Business internships
International students can take a supervised workplace internship for credit toward their MCom degree. Students will spend 160 hours during a semester working on a project in a business organisation under the guidance of a workplace mentor and an academic supervisor. Students will gain experience of Australian workplace culture and environment while being involved in a range of activities such as research, planning, marketing and organisation within the context of a specific project. Students will be individually placed with suitable companies and the type of project will vary.
Placement and administration is through Macquarie International. Academic assessment is organised through the Graduate Accounting and Commerce Centre. The number of workplace internships available each semester is limited and selection of suitable candidates will be competitive. Students will need a minimum GPA of 3.00 and good written English. Students who satisfactorily complete the project will receive a pass in BUS880 Business Internship and four credit points toward their postgraduate degree.

International study programs
Students in the MCom are able to participate in an international study experience such as a short 4-6 week program at an overseas university, a semester of study on a student exchange program or an articulated double degree at a university in another country. These international study opportunities are available to both Australian and international students, are partially funded by a Macquarie Travel Grant and count for credit toward the MCom. See International Study Programs for more information.
MIB and Exemptions in the CPA Program
CPA Australia has designated the MIB a specialist masters degree. Under this arrangement, students who complete the MIB in full (32 credit points) and then enrol in the CPA program of CPA Australia are able to claim exemption from two elective segments in the CPA program. Students must first be eligible for the CPA program (e.g. hold an approved accounting degree) to claim CPA exemptions.
PLEASE NOTE: It is essential that students refer to degree rules and official unit sequences in the University handbook to ascertain their official study program. The university calendar can be found at: http://handbook.mq.edu.au.
